FAQs

  • Do I need to be strong/in shape before I start pole dancing?

Nope! When you start in level-appropriate classes, you’ll develop the foundational strength and coordination needed to perform the movements. Our instructors are also trained to provide appropriate modifications if students lack the strength or flexibility to do a certain movement. We believe pole is for EVERY body, no matter their size, gender identity, or fitness level.

  • What if I’m not flexible?

That’s okay too! While flexibility usually improves with regular class participation, most pole movements can be modified for students of varying flexibility levels. If you want to improve your flexibility more quickly, we have weekly Flexibility classes available as well.

  • I’m new to pole. What class should I take?

New pole students are welcome to take our Pole Teaser class on Saturdays or the 4-Week Intro Series. Please visit our New Student page to learn more and sign up! Flexibility and movement classes are also beginner-friendly.

  • Will I get my own pole in class?

Our group class studio has 7 student poles, and we cap our pole classes at 14 students. That means you could be sharing a pole with one other student. Sharing poles allows us to provide a beautiful studio space, pay our instructors fairly, and keep our class prices affordable. Moreover, pole sharing is truly a benefit to our students. It creates camaraderie during classes, allowing students to observe one another and cheer each other on. It also reduces the risk of injury from over-training, as it gives students a chance to rest in between sets.

  • Will I get bruises?

Oh, you mean pole kisses? When you start pole dancing, you will likely get some bruises in the areas that are gripping the pole. Every body is different, but most people’s skin will get acclimated to the pole, and they won’t bruise as much as they did when they were new to pole.

  • How do I sign up for classes?

To sign up for any of our classes, you’ll need to create an account and book you class online. If you’re having issues with signing up for class, please contact us directly at info@covapoleandmovement.com.

  • What do I wear?

Pole classes: In pole classes, we use our skin to grip the pole, so your clothing will need to expose your armpits and thighs. For tops, sports bra or tank tops are appropriate (tank tops may need to be rolled up for certain movements). Bottoms should be form-fitting shorts that leave your thighs bare, or that can be rolled up if necessary. You may also want to wear kneepads for floorwork.

Heels classes: For heels classes, please wear pole dance platform heels, such as Pleasers or Hella Heels. Heels and boots are both welcome. Please never wear heels that have been worn in the club or outdoors. Studio heels should only be worn in the studio.

Flex and movement classes: Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. Pole attire is fine, but you are also free to wear other athletic clothing.

  • Do you offer private lessons?

We do! Please visit the Classes page to book a private lesson with one of our expert instructors.

  • Can I rent out the space to train on my own?

Absolutely! Our memberships include open pole sessions, and they can also be booked separate from memberships. Be aware that open pole sessions do not guarantee you will have the entire space to yourself. If you’d like the space to yourself, you can book one of the studios as a private rental. See the Rental page for details.

  • Can I host a workshop or event at COVA?

Yes! We love providing a beautiful space for workshops and events in the community. Whether you want to put on your own pole workshop, host a private event, or teach a specialty class, COVA is the space for you! Our poles are on a PoleAway system, so they can be easily stored if you are hosting a non-pole event. Please see the Rental page for details.

Policies

  • Are there age restrictions at COVA?

We want COVA to be as inclusive as possible! That said, for safety reasons, we do have some age requirements for our classes and parties:

    - Students ages 12-16 may participate in classes and parties, with the exception of heels classes, with parents’ permission and signed liability waiver.

    - If you have a student younger than 12 who is interested in private lessons, please reach out to the studio directly.

    - Students ages 16-18 may participate in classes and parties, including heels classes, with parents’ permission and signed liability waiver.

    - Age restrictions for specialty workshops and other events will vary depending on the content.

  • What is the cancellation/no-show policy?

If you can no longer attend class, you MUST cancel your booking at least 12 hours prior to class start time. If you purchase your class with a limited membership or class pack credit and cancel at least 12 hours prior to the class, the credit will be returned to your account. If you purchase a drop-in and you cancel at least 12 hours prior to the class, the class cost will be refunded to your original payment method.

Classes that are NOT cancelled more than 12 hours in advance will be considered a no-show and assessed as follows:

For classes booked with a class pack or limited membership:

    - The class credit will be forfeited and unavailable for future use.

For classes booked with an unlimited membership:

    - A $20 late cancel fee will be charged to the card on file.

    For drop-in classes:

    - The full class fee will apply and will not be refunded.

  • What if I’m running late?

We enforce a strict 5-minute late policy. This means that any student who is not in the studio within 5 minutes of the class start time will not be allowed to take class. This is important for safety, as we lock our doors when classes are in session. It’s also important that we don’t interrupt the flow of class for students who are on time.

  • Community & Safety

Strict policy against hate speech or aggression of any kind. Derogatory comments on the basis of race, gender identity, body size or disability will not be tolerated in our space. Making such comments will result in dismissal from class and inability to return to COVA for future classes.

  • Alcohol & Drugs

No alcohol or drugs are permitted in COVA. You also may not be under the influence when entering the COVA space.

  • Phone Usage

Phone usage is not permitted during classes for calls, texts, social media. If an emergency call/text is needed, you will be required to exit the room to do so. We want to and others to enjoy class without the discretion of your phone.

  • Pics/vids

Videos are only allowed after the warm-up portion of class, and students are only allowed to record themselves. Students must receive consent from anyone else in your video. Students may not record entire classes or instructors while teaching.
